This beer was originally brewed to commemorate my daughter's first birthday and has become a spring/birthday commemorative beer ever since. It has been modified several times in the last 10 years and as my daughter would say, and I tend to agree with her, it has improved with age just like me!

This is the 3rd or 4th version of this beer and it is finally where I want it to be.  The finished beer has a great tart roasty flavor up front that quickly gives way to an assertive but delicious hop flavor.

I don't know why I didn't think about putting rye into my double IPA recipe before! I am loving this beer.

I have been working through some efficiency problems lately but I am getting back on track and you can see I had a 70% efficiency for this batch. My goal is to get back to 78-80% and that will bump the ABV by another point or two.

The only error in the recipe below is that my final gravity was 1.008. I like my big beers dangerously drinkable.
