My application to Four Points LAX
I first learned of the Four Points beer program a few years ago when it was being discussed on one of my favorite beer podcasts. I remember thinking back then, I would love to have Justin’s job (fast forward a few years and hundreds of beers) it still sounds like a great job! That is why I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with Justin on the newly created Beer Advisory Board at Four Points LAX.
As a professional, I am the beer writer and the founder of www.HopHeadSaid.com. I enjoy writing about beer art (bottle labels, posters and coasters), the craft beer industry and geeky homebrew topics, however, the true focus of HopHeadSaid is beer and food pairings. I have been writing about beer and food pairings for a year and a half and they are definitely the most popular posts I write. I like to search out local businesses with which to collaborate and I have paired beers with a local chocolatier (10 chocolates/6 different beers), a local cheese shop (9 cheeses/ 7 different beers), and have even created vegetarian pairings with my local CSA. Currently, I am collaborating with the popular website They Draw and Cook and pairing beers with their illustrated recipes. You can read about all of these pairings, and many more, on my website.
I am also the beer writer for the magazine VCBuzz. VCBuzz covers the local (Ventura County) entertainment scene and my articles highlight local breweries or brewpubs and offers food-pairing suggestions specific to their beers. VCBuzz also has a video production “arm” and together we are producing a new webseries called pints&pairngs. The pilot episode will be released in July and will highlight beer and food-pairing opportunities in and around Ventura County. Once, established we have aspirations to take this unique show to much larger markets.
In addition to my website and magazine writing, I am also in discussions with Brewers Publications to write a beer and food-pairing book. I will draw on my 20 years of craft beer enjoyment and 15 years of teaching and homebrewing experience to create an easy to follow guide that will be entertaining and informative for the novice and expert beer geek alike.
Through both of my writing gigs and my new book project, I have had the opportunity to interview and become friends with many of the Ventura and Santa Barbara County brewmasters. In fact, I have created a US-101 beer trail map that ties all my beer 101 friends together! Map is located on HopHeadSaid [HERE]. I will bring those connections, experiences and beer suggestions with me to help create an outstanding beer list for Brewster’s Bar and Grill.
And the icing on the cake, or the white fluffy head on a perfect pour, I am a Certified Cicerone® and I am ready to volunteer my knowledge, experience and personality to this board. I have also created a 2 minute video to help you get a better sense of who I am and what I can bring to Four Points LAX.
