Yesterday I happened to be walking from a parking garage in Ventura, CA and I passed a group of guys constructing a pop-up style booth. (See the pic on the left) As I was reading the advertising on the outside I realized it was a Blood Alcohol Content detector. I thought this was a great idea and so I stopped to visit for just a moment to find out what was going on.

The BlowBAC booth allows people to move "from making bad guesses to good
choices" about driving with alcohol in their system. We have a hard number
0.08 for DUI but generally no way to know where we are on that scale. The
BlowBAC booth allows patrons to administer themselves a free, private,
anonymous BAC test and then make an informed decision about whether they
should get behind the wheel, -- and the level of certitude whether they
will be arrested if they are pulled over.
We are on the initial roll-out stage of the BlowBAC Booth. This weekend,
the first one (in the nation that we are aware of) will be on the streets
of Ventura outside Café Fiore where you saw it. The location puts it in a
well-travelled area between several popular watering holes and the
municipal parking lot.
