Beer Trail

What you see below is what I hope to be the first of many Beer Trail maps. Take a look and let me know if anything is hard to read or distracting. Also, let me know if I have missed any breweries along the way. The only requirement is that the brewery must be located in a town that lies along the 101 in SoCal or the Central Coast.

Once I get some feedback I will tweak the map. In the meantime, I will be contacting breweries along the trail to see if they will offer some sort of discount to customers if they bring the map in with them.

Curtis,

The only recommend I have for you is changing the icon for the brew pub. I like that it is a crossed fork and knife, but when it's zoomed out, it only reads as an X, which invokes a negative response.

Thanks Gail, I tried a couple different forms of forks and knives and I even adde a spoon but none of them were as clean as the "X". I just wish I had been able to bring the map to the group. Printed out 11x16 makes a big difference and you can see the fork tines easily. In the end I decided to keep them as is.

I am in awe of map-making. You and Nightengail have a real talent for presenting info clearly and playfully.

I agree about the crossed silverware for the brewpub icon. X the x. How about the beer glass with a fork standing next to it, instead? Like an added feature?

Also just want to say I love the layout and the typefaces you chose for this. They all work together to make the whole map look inviting. Cool and playful — like something Bullwinkle could use when the camera wasn't rolling! (Rocky could drive . . ..)

Thanks for your suggestion Siri. I toned down the road colors and it made a huge difference and the road looked so much better!

Hi Curtis,
I think it's beautiful. I agree with the x thing. Also, though I like the colors, the green reads as kelly and the blue pthalo. I was wondering if you should gray them, and lighten the value?

Thanks Carol. I toned the green down a bit but left the blue. The highway logo didn't pop as much after the blue change.
